Halo, the nitrogen generator for MP-AES

Halo is PEAK Scientific’s dedicated nitrogen generator for MP-AES. Read on for all the need-to-know information about this innovative gas generator.

Developed as an evolution of PEAK’s successful Genius 3055 nitrogen generator, Halo is a dual gas system designed to deliver both compressed air and high purity nitrogen for MP-AES applications.

Capable of supplying 99.5% pure nitrogen at 25 L/min or 99.95% pure nitrogen at 10L/min, Halo can provide Plasma support gas and can also be used to provide nitrogen for monochromator purge*. With a supporting air supply of up to 36.5 LPM, Halo is also the perfect nitrogen generator solution for POP gas, EGCM and Monochromator Air Purge.

Designed first and foremost as a nitrogen generator for MP-AES, Halo is equipped with an integrated O2 Analyzer which ensures it delivers the highest purity nitrogen. This compact and mobile gas generator also boasts an exceptional O2 purity stability, <5% variance from peak to trough of the absolute concentration (<0.5% O2).

Halo generators are also extremely quiet in operation and come CE and FCC certified as standard so, if you require a nitrogen generator for MP-AES, a Halo nitrogen generator from PEAK Scientific is the ideal solution.

Some laboratories are still using nitrogen gas cylinders rather than a nitrogen generator for their MP-AES but there are many reasons why a generator is simply a superior gas solution. Gas cylinders increase the opportunities for introducing contaminants into your analysis as they require frequent change overs to maintain supply and cylinder gas purity can diminish as the cylinder is used. Inconsistency in the purity of cylinder gas is unavoidable which is why labs are advised to abandon the last 10% of a gas within a cylinder, as this tenth of the supply is likely to contain the most contaminants. On the other hand, a gas generator provides a constant supply of gas with a consistent purity, never running out mid-analysis or requiring change overs like cylinders.

Gas cylinders are also a danger in the laboratory. In addition to being heavy and cumbersome to move, making health and safety training a necessity for anyone who is required to move them, cylinders also contain large quantities of compressed gas. Cylinders also contain large quantities of compressed gas. If a nitrogen cylinder were to develop a leak it could quickly lead to asphyxiation if the leak occurred in a sealed environment. In contrast, a nitrogen gas generator only stores minimal amounts of gas as it produces nitrogen on-demand. Even in a sealed environment, it would take a nitrogen generator days to leak enough nitrogen gas to become dangerous, and with in-built safety leak detectors and alarms, this is extremely unlikely.

In addition to being safer and more convenient to use than gas cylinders, a nitrogen gas generator is also the most cost-effective gas solution. When using cylinders as a gas supply solution it is necessary to take cylinder rental costs, gas delivery costs and administration costs of placing and processing deliveries into consideration. A laboratory has no control over these costs which often increase when contract renewals take place without much warning or negotiation. A gas generator, however, is much easier to factor into a laboratory budget. After the initial purchase cost, the only ongoing cost with a gas generator would be for a maintenance plan which can usually be fixed for a number of years.

When taking safety, convenience and cost into consideration, it is clear that nitrogen generators are the best gas supply solution for laboratories.  For those laboratories which work with MP-AES applications, PEAK’s compact Halo nitrogen generator for MP-AES is an ideal gas solution which is extremely quiet in operation and takes up minimal valuable lab space.
