Deva Holding creates a safer lab environment with Precision
We had the pleasure of talking to Çağan Ağtaş, the Analytical Assistant Manager at Deva Holding, about their experience with PEAK Scientific and the Precision stack of nitrogen, hydrogen, and zero-air generators they use in their daily GC work.
DEVA Holding is a pharmaceutical manufacturer in Turkey with its main areas of operations include manufacturing and marketing medicinal products for human use and raw materials.
Typically what is the focus of your GC analysis - what sort of applications?
Residual solvent analysis to ensure compliance with regulatory limits (e.g., ICH Q3C guidelines). Volatile organic impurities (VOIs) monitoring in active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Stability studies, where GC helps analyze potential degradation products. Headspace GC applications for the quantification of solvents and volatiles in formulations.
What PEAK Scientific generators do you have in your laboratory and what GC instruments do they supply?
Precision nitrogen generator, hydrogen generator, and air generator. We use them for our Shimadzu 20.
Is your generator used for carrier gas, detector gas, or both?
Yes, we use it for both.
"The main reason is their reliability, cost-effectiveness, and excellent customer support, which have significantly improved the efficiency and safety of our operations."
Are you using a GC method(s) for your analysis? If yes, which method(s)?
Residual Solvent Analysis: Based on ICH Q3C guidelines, we use headspace GC methods with FID to quantify Class 1, 2, and 3 solvents in APIs and formulations.
Volatile Impurity Profiling: A headspace GC-MS method to detect and quantify volatile organic impurities as part of stability studies and release testing.
Degradation Product Analysis: GC-MS methods are employed to identify and quantify volatile degradation products formed during forced degradation and long-term stability studies.
Purity Testing for Raw Materials: Gas chromatography methods are used to assess the purity of excipients and solvents used in production.
Process Monitoring: Online or offline GC methods to monitor residual solvents during synthesis.
What prompted you to choose a PEAK generator for GC and how long have you used it?
PEAK generators provide a continuous and stable supply of gases for the GC, ensuring uninterrupted analysis and consistent results. We’ve managed to save on our outgoing costs by removing cylinders. The compact size compared to our previous cylinder supply fits well in our laboratory space without compromising efficiency.
PEAK’s maintenance and support plans ensure minimal downtime and maximum productivity. We have been using it for 7 years.
What has been the key benefit of deploying PEAK generators for GC as opposed to your previous gas supply solution?
There have been three main benefits of having PEAK generators in the lab. Firstly, PEAK generators provide our instruments with a continuous supply of high-purity gas exactly when we need it.
Secondly, the gas generators remove the hazards associated with storing and transporting high-pressure gas cylinders, creating a safer laboratory environment.
And finally, by reducing transport and frequent tube replacement it is in line with our sustainability goals.
How would you describe your PEAK generator purchasing experience in terms of speed of response, ease of ordering, catering to your needs, and timing of delivery?
Our PEAK generator purchasing experience was excellent. The team responded promptly, the ordering process was smooth, our needs were well understood, and delivery was on time, ensuring minimal disruption.
Have you ever had a site visit from a PEAK engineer regarding your generator for GC? If so, could you describe your experience with this support?
Yes, we have had a site visit from a PEAK engineer. The experience was highly professional—the engineer was knowledgeable, resolved the issue efficiently, and provided clear guidance on maintenance, ensuring our generators operate at peak performance.
Would you recommend PEAK Scientific generators to other laboratories? If yes, what would be your main reason for the recommendation?
Yes, we would definitely recommend PEAK Scientific generators to other laboratories. The main reason is their reliability, cost-effectiveness, and excellent customer support, which have significantly improved the efficiency and safety of our operations.
